SmartIR develops next-generation graphene-based tiles that dynamically control both visible colour and infrared (IR) thermal radiation, unlocking transformative applications across space, defence, and beyond.
Our patented adaptive emissivity technology enables real-time modulation of infrared and visible light, allowing for precise thermal management, dynamic camouflage, and secure IR communication. At the core of our innovation is a flexible, lightweight, and scalable tile system that can be embedded onto textiles, plastics, or structural surfaces. These tiles can be individually addressed and networked to cover large areas, offering spatial control of heat emission and colour. Early prototypes—measuring 10×10 cm—have demonstrated integration across multiple substrates, paving the way for field-ready deployment.
SmartIR’s technology addresses critical challenges in emerging aerospace markets, especially for nano- and micro-satellites, where thermal control is essential and every gram counts. By reducing power requirements and enabling lightweight, passive thermal regulation, our solution can cut satellite weight by up to 10% and power consumption by up to 40%.
Beyond space, our Adaptive Thermal Tile (ATT) technology offers advanced thermal signature management for defence. It enhances survivability by reducing detectability against heat-seeking munitions and enables dynamic infrared ID patches for personnel and vehicles—overcoming the limitations of current static systems.
