Dr. Pietro Steiner is a Product Development Lead and Line Manager of the technical team at SmartIR, where he plays a pivotal role in translating cutting-edge laboratory research into deployable thermal management technologies for space and defence. As a core member of SmartIR’s engineering team, Dr. Steiner brings deep technical knowledge and hands-on expertise in the design, fabrication, and characterization of graphene-based electro-thermal devices.
He received his PhD in Materials Science from the University of Manchester, under the supervision of Prof. Coskun Kocabas, focusing on the development of electro-thermal systems using 2D materials. His doctoral research, which explored the practical implementation of graphene in adaptive thermal devices, laid the foundation for several of SmartIR’s key innovations.
Dr. Steiner has over five years of experience working at the intersection of nanomaterials, thermal engineering, and device prototyping. He is a driving force behind the lab-to-market transfer of SmartIR’s technology, with a comprehensive understanding of the design principles, material properties, and operational behavior of the company’s adaptive emissivity systems.
